Producer responsibility for Teknikspot's packaging has now been arranged.

Moving forward one step at a time

Teknikspot's operations have grown during our first year, expanding beyond Finland. Entering new markets has not only meant new delivery methods, payment methods, and languages, but also a lot of work that isn't visible to the customer in the online store.

One of these things is producer responsibility.

Over the past few months, we have investigated packaging producer responsibility market by market and made the necessary agreements with local producer responsibility organizations. This work has now reached the point where Teknikspot's packaging producer responsibility has been arranged in all our current markets.

What does packaging producer responsibility mean?

When an order leaves Teknikspot for a customer, not only the product but also various packaging and packaging materials are sent along with it.

A product may have its own retail packaging, and shipping requires, for example, a cardboard box or a shipping bag, as well as possible protective and filler materials. When these packages are placed on the market, a responsibility for their proper waste management and recycling also arises.

At Teknikspot, we track the quantities of packaging materials ending up in different markets and report them according to local systems. We pay the costs incurred from the recycling and waste management of the packaging we place on the market in accordance with those local systems.

In the case of a single shipment, we are often talking about only a few grams of packaging material. However, as the number of orders increases, even small amounts form a larger whole.

A new market means more than just selling products

As Teknikspot has expanded, we have noticed in practice that opening a new market doesn't just mean adding a new country to the online store and being able to start shipping products there without any further measures.

These are things that the customer does not usually see when placing an order, but they are part of the everyday life of an international online store.

Next up: electronics, batteries, and accumulators

Since our selection consists largely of electronics, we have simultaneously been investigating producer responsibility for electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), as well as batteries and accumulators.

Progress has already been made in this work as well. In one of our current markets, producer responsibility for electronics, batteries, and accumulators has already been arranged, and work continues regarding the other markets.

Our operations are growing and our products are ending up in more and more markets, so we also want to take care of the responsibilities that come with our products and packaging.
